'Postgraduate Funding Opportunities in German Studies at the University of Manchester, 2006-7

The School is pleased to announce support for Home/EU and International students registering for a research (PhD) or a taught (MA) programme.This competition is open to full-time and part-time students applying for a PhD programme within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures at the University of Manchester. (areas: history, literature, linguistics)

For full-time PhD students – Payment of the full-time Manchester home/EU fees (£3085 in 2005-6) or assistance with overseas fees, plus a maintenance bursary up to the maximum value equivalent to the AHRC award (£12,000 in 2005-6).

For part-time PhD students – Payment of the half-time Manchester home/EU fees (£1542.50) or assistance with overseas fees, plus a maintenance bursary up to the maximum value equivalent to the AHRC award.
The closing date for receipt of applications with all the required supporting documentation is 30 June 2006. Allocations will be decided by a School Committee to be held by mid July 2006. This competition is open only to new PhD applicants, not currently registered PhD students and only successful candidates will be contacted. The School’s postgraduate community is one of the UK's largest and most diverse in the UK, enjoying state-of-the-art facilities and excellent support within a high-quality research environment. In step with our continuing expansion, we are enhancing our support for students registering for a research degree (PhD) in 2006-7.

There will also be a Graduate Teaching Fellowships (full-time) in German.

Please note, the GTF must be undertaken in conjunction with a PhD programme of study and applicants for the GTF MUST possess relevant teaching experience.

The full-time GTF will be required to teach for 6 hours per week and the part-time GTF will be required to teach for 3 hours per week.

The full-time GTF is open to Home/EU and International applicants and comprises three elements: the payment of full Home/EU or International fees [2005/6 academic session £3085 (Home/EU) or £8300 (International)], which is paid directly to the University, a monthly salary for teaching (2005/6 academic session: £5404.32), which is paid directly into your bank account in 10 monthly instalments of £540.43 and a bursary (2005/6 academic session: £6754.80) paid in quarterly instalments by cheque, which is normally collected the first week of October, January, April and July.'
