1.) 2-3 doctoral fellowships at the Centre for Medieval Studies (CMS/NCMS)

At the Centre for Medieval Studies (CMS) there are 2-3 fellowships available.
The Centre was launched in January 2003 as a result of the Norwegian Research Council’s initiation of Centres of Excellence (CoE). The centres are devoted to long-term, basic research on a high international standard. In 2005 CMS/NCMS was launched as a Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) as a result of the Nordic Research Council’s initiation.
CMS/NCMS is an interdisciplinary centre, and its principal research objective is to identify formative characteristics of the Europeanization of Europe, in particular through relations between the periphery, i.e. Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, and the core, i.e. Western and Southern Europe.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent education from abroad by the application deadline. Education must be relevant for PhD-studies in the specialties of the Centre’s research programme. The fellowship is intended to lead to a Ph.D. degree and qualify the successful applicant for a career in academic research. The research fellow must take part in the University’s approved PhD program leading to the degree within a time limit of three years.

Under similar circumstances, projects within archaeology, church history or theology will be given priority. Following from the overall aims of the CMS, the projects should preferably have a comparative perspective, either Nordic or European.
Appointment to a doctoral fellowship will normally be for a period of three years, during which the fellow will take the University's doctoral programme and conduct his/her own research.
Salary will be paid in accordance with level 45 (code 1017/20.3) on the Norwegian government salary scale (currently NOK 355.400,-). A compulsory 2% contribution to the State Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse) will be deducted from gross salary.
State employment shall reflect the multiplicity of the population at large to the highest possible degree. We have therefore adopted a personnel policy objective to ensure that we achieve a balanced age and sex composition and the recruitment of persons of various ethnic backgrounds. Persons of different ethnic backgrounds are therefore encouraged to apply for the position.

The main purpose of appointments to Postdoctoral positions at universities and colleges is to enable one to become qualified for a high-level academic position. A postdoctoral position is a fixed term appointment. The term of employment for this position is 2,5 - 3 years during which the fellow will conduct his/her own research. It is not possible for any person to work under more than one fixed term appointment as postdoctoral fellow at the same institution.
Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education from abroad, or have presented the dissertation for assessment by the closing date for applications. It is a prerequisite that the dissertation has been approved before appointment is granted.
Salary will be paid in accordance with grade 57 (code 1352/pay framework 24.1) on the Norwegian government salary scale, currently NOK 438.700 gross p.a. In the case of particularly highly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered. A compulsory 2% contribution to the State Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse) will be deducted from gross salary.
