Fellowship in Family and Kinship in Historical Perspective

The German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6-month fellowship in Family and Kinship in Historical Perspective. The recipient should begin the term March 1, 2016.

Preference is given to applicants on the postdoctoral level. The Fellow is expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events. The Fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda. Candidates doing original research for a second book project will be preferred.

The monthly stipend is € 3000 for EU citizens and $3200 for US citizens. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.

To apply please send a cover letter, a CV, a copy of your last diploma, the names and contact information of three references, a research project proposal (5-pages or 2,000 words max), and two writing samples, such as an article or a book chapter, no later than September 15, 2015. While applicants may write in either English or German, we recommend that they use the language in which they are most proficient. Submission of documents by email is strongly preferred. Stipendium für Nordamerikanische Geschichte

Das Deutsche Historische Institut in Washington, D.C. vergibt ein Stipendium für Nordamerikanische Geschichte.

Die Bewerber/innen sollten in Neuerer/Neuester Geschichte oder amerikanischer Geschichte promovieren oder habilitieren. Mögliche Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Geschichte Nordamerikas von der Kolonialzeit bis zum 21. Jahrhundert, vergleichende Geschichte oder internationale Geschichte (jeweils mit Nordamerika-Schwerpunkt).

Das Stipendium wird beginnend am 1. März 2016 zunächst für sechs Monate vergeben. Neben einer Unterhaltszahlung in Höhe von monatlich € 1,700 (für Doktoranden) / €3,000 (für Habilitierende) erhält die/der erfolgreiche Bewerber/in einen Arbeitsplatz hier am Institut und Zuschüsse für Forschungsreisen. Außerdem werden die Kosten für einen Hin und Rückflug von und nach Deutschland übernommen.
