2 PhD Teaching Fellowships, Department of History, University of Limerick.

The Department of History is offering full-time PhD Teaching Fellowships in the following areas:

i) Early Modern German History.

Proposals for projects in the following areas are particularly encouraged: history of education, history of print culture, Reformation history, urban history. Candidates should have completed or be in the process of completing a Masters degree in History or in a relevant discipline. Advanced reading knowledge of German is required. The successful candidate will benefit from the expertise of the cluster of early modern specialists in the Department of History and the University of Limerick more generally and will be attached to the new Centre for Early Modern Studies. ii) Urban history of the Middle East/Mediterranean Basin Late 19th Century - Early 20th Century (the period of WW1 is preferable but not a limitation).

Interest in developing a project on the urban development of one or more cities in the region in any of the following themes: comparative approach; minorities; war and conflict, violence, economic development, colonialism, urban planning. Candidates should have completed or be in the process of completing a Masters degree in history or in a relevant discipline and are able to demonstrate an interest in empirical research and oral histories, diaries and memoirs. The duration of both awards is for a maximum of three years commencing September 2016. The continuation of the award after the first year will be subject to a successful review of progress. The award will take the form of a tax free stipend of €15,000 per annum plus a waiver of EU fees to the value of €4,321 per year. The recipients of the full-time bursaries will lead tutorials with undergraduate students up to a maximum of six hours per week during teaching semester.

iii) In addition and in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department is offering two three-year fee-waivers only in any area of post-1500 History (http://www.ul.ie/ULH/people). Recipients of the fee waivers will lead tutorials with undergraduate students to a maximum of three hours a week.
