We are looking for a colleague with proven expert knowledge in Old Master drawings and particularly in Italian art to collaborate on the collection catalogue of the 16th-century Italian drawings in the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett. Since 2018, this project has been supported by a major grant from the Getty Foundation, as part of "The Paper Project. Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century". The initiative’s primary focus is on training and professional development for early- to mid-career curators of prints and drawings.
The collection of Italian Renaissance drawings in the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett includes more than 600 individual sheets, as well as several albums. Among these works are celebrated drawings as well as a large group of unpublished works. The current research project aims at cataloguing this important part of our holdings. With respect to methodology, and with the wealth and diversity of the material in mind, particular attention is being paid to fostering a dialogue with international colleagues.
Your tasks
- cataloguing of drawings from the Kupferstich-Kabinett’s collection in cooperation with the curator in charge and the project team
- research on the drawings and the collection history, including networking with international colleagues
- collaboration with the paper conservation department
- documentation in the museum’s database "Daphne"
- preparation and authorship of catalogue entries and editorial tasks
- organization and coordination of workshops, visits of guest scholars and support of external authors
- administrative tasks as needed
Your profile
- PhD/DPhil (or equivalent) in History of Art
- experience in curatorial work, ideally in a Department of Prints and Drawings
- proven knowledge of Italian Old Master drawings
- good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- experience in working with museum databases
- efficiency in working independently as well as within a team
- excellent communication and organizational skills
- very good knowledge of German and English in spoken and written form (knowledge of Italian is preferred)
