The Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism (HAIT) is a research center, financed by the State of Saxony (Germany), associated with the Technical University of Dresden and headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Lindenberger. The HAIT is located on the TU Dresden campus and currently employs 11 researchers and 8 members of staff (first-part funds). The Institute is currently welcoming applications for a full time (38 hours a week) Post-Doc Researcher position in the field of comparative extremism and autocracy research, starting in September 2022. Possible main areas of research are studies on the legitimation und structure of autocratic regimes, the development of extremist ideologies, the success conditions for right-wing extremist and populist parties, politically motivated violence, xenophobia and integration.
The requirements for this position are a completed PhD in Humanities, a demonstrated track record of academic publications, experience in research projects, international networking, knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods and enthusiasm to stimulate the research community. Fluency in German and English is indispensable. Alongside, competence in the field of extremism and autocracy research (documented by publications), the willingness to cooperate in the field of transformation research, as well as to compete and attract external funding for research projects are expected.
Salary scale: The employment contract will be signed on a temporary basis (three years) and its extension will depend on a satisfactory performance. In addition, staffing will take place in accordance with the German Law for temporary contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz § 2, section 1), as well as the collective agreement for the Saxonian public service - TV-L, level E 13.
