The Übersee-Museum Bremen–a multi-disciplinary museum with the departments of Ethnology, Natural History and Trade History–is a foundation under public law and is one of the major museums in Germany. The permanent exhibitions are regularly redesigned with an interdisciplinary approach. The Übersee-Museum sees itself as a lively cultural institution whose program includes not only special exhibitions but also the organization and implementation of various cultural events.
With the project “Oceania digital”, the Übersee-Museum is planning a multi-platform project with the aim of connecting global communities and different disciplines. The project accompanies the development of the new permanent exhibition Oceania (opening in 2024) and breaks new ground in communication and collaboration around museum collections and topics.

We are looking to recruit an Outreach Curator for building networks via social media and community management within the multi-platform project Oceania digital. The position is non-permanent, starting as soon as possible and ending by 31 December 2023. It is further defined as:
“Outreach Curator”
EG 13 TVÖD/VKA, 19,50 hours per week
Your responsibilities will be:
- Providing the team with expertise for developing the social media strategy, regarding sustainability and workflows as well as evaluation and preservation of content
- Conceptual and editorial guidance and research for the publication of collection information from the ethnographic and natural history collections and the Historical Image Archive
- Facilitation of the team's planning and reflection process and meetings, within the social media team and the Oceania digital team
- Production and editing of online content/media (text, image and video) and topics in English for the Facebook channel "Oceania Collection Voyages" (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083002609221)
Your knowledge and skills:
- Very good communication skills, experience in moderating processes and managing and supervising teams
- Significant experience in social media management, ideally in a professionally related field: science communication, culture, collections, GLAM sector
- Study background, preferable: history, cultural anthropology, ethnology or other similar disciplines
- Preferable: basic knowledge and/or scientific engagement with Oceania (in a cultural-historical context)
- Very good English language skills (English is project language)
- Preferable: German language skills (B2 level)
The position does not require presence in Bremen, but can also be performed remotely. The willingness to attend meetings in Bremen in exceptional cases should be given.
