Salary: Pro-rata to: €31,745 per annum

Department of History, Trinity College Dublin
Start date: 1st January 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.

A full-time vacancy has arisen for a motivated and well-organised Postdoctoral Research Fellow (‘Associate Investigator’) to work on the research project ‘International History of Concentration Camps’. This post is funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences with a Thematic Project Grant, and is the second such postdoctoral position.

The duties will include research on the topic of the Soviet GULag system, and assistance with the organisation of a conference on the overall project. It is expected that the AI will work closely with the Principal Investigator and the first AI, and participate in the intellectual life of the History Department and the Centre for War Studies at Trinity College Dublin.

The appointee should hold a Ph.D. in Soviet/Russian history, preferably in an area associated with the history of the GULag. Excellent command of both the English and Russian language is essential.

The funding of the Fellowships follows the levels and conditions laid down under the IRCHSS Post-Doctoral Scheme.

The salary will be pro-rata to €31,745 p.a. plus social insurance, pension contributions, and a travel allowance.

Applications must include:
(a) A full curriculum vitae, including education and career, list of publications, year and (where relevant) class of your degrees, original title and where appropriate English translation of degrees, together with the names and contact details (email addresses if possible) of two academic referees.
(b) A brief description (500 words) of the research to be undertaken during the tenure of the fellowship and how your experience will allow you to deliver the required research.
