The Courant Research Centre “EDRIS - Education and Religion from
Early Imperial Roman Times to the Classical Period of Islam” at the

one full-time post-doctoral research position

EDRIS is one of seven interdisciplinary research centres (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/courant-centre) recently established by the University of Göttingen as part of its institutional strategy “Tradition - Innovation -Autonomy”. The objective of the Centre is to investigate educational concepts and methods and their interaction with religious beliefs from the Early Imperial Period of the Roman Empire to the Classical Period of Islam, i.e. from the first to the thirteenth century CE. Interdisciplinary collaborative work at the Courant Research Centre is carried out by three junior research groups, focusing on the Early Roman Empire, the Late Antique period, and Classical Islam. The post-doctoral position will complement and cross-link the research of the three groups by focussing on the relationship of Religion and Education in early imperial Roman times (1st-2nd cent. CE). Applications are welcome from the fields of Jewish Studies, New Testament Studies, Classics, Philosophy of Antiquity or History of Religions. Excellent young researchers are offered the opportunity to pursue their research agenda within the vibrant academic environment of the Centre. The successful candidate will have a strong research background demonstrated by a doctoral degree in one of the disciplines mentioned above, an emerging track record of international publications, and demonstrated potential for interdisciplinary collaboration. Permanent presence in Göttingen is expected, in order to stimulate active scholarly interaction among the members of the Centre.

The position will start as soon as possible and initially last until October 31st, 2012, with the possibility of extension. The salary is subject to the German state regulated public service salary scale (TV-L 13). International applications are welcome.
