The Department of History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications and nominations for a Canada Research Chair - Tier II position in the History of Energy. The successful applicant will be appointed at the assistant or associate professor level. He or she will join a department of twenty-five faculty members and more than fifty graduate students who work on diverse areas of history (hist.ucalgary.ca).

Calgary is the centre of the Canadian energy industry, and the research area of Energy and Environment has long been one of the University of Calgary's institutional research development priorities. Highly promising scholars who work on the business, cultural, environmental, policy, political, social, and technological aspects of the History of Energy in all areas of the world will be considered.

The Department of History is particularly interested in candidates who will be able to take advantage of the numerous resources on the History of Energy available at the University of Calgary and in Western Canada more generally. The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record and the demonstrated ability to build undergraduate and graduate teaching areas in the History of Energy. He or she will develop interdisciplinary research and teaching collaborations as appropriate with colleagues in other units on campus who work on related issues. These include the Arctic Institute of North America; the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies; the Haskayne School of Business; the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy; and the School of Public Policy.
