Vorbehaltlich der Weiterfinanzierung schreibt das Doktoratskolleg (DK) „Das österreichische Galizien und sein multikulturelles Erbe“ an der Universität Wien neun Dienstverträge für DoktorandInnen mit einer Laufzeit von drei Jahren (Beginn: 01.03.2016) aus.
Das vom Fonds für Wissenschaftliche Forschung (FWF) geförderte Doktoratskolleg Galizien ist an der Historisch-Kulturwissenschaftlichen, der Philologisch-Kulturwissenschaftlichen und der Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Wien angesiedelt. Bewerbungen können erfolgen in den Fächern Germanistik, Geschichte, Judaistik, Slawistik (Polonistik, Ukrainistik), Sozialanthropologie oder Politikwissenschaft, wobei besonderes Augenmerk auf Transdisziplinarität und Transkulturalität gelegt wird.
Mögliche Dissertationsprojekte mit eindeutigem Bezug auf Galizien könnten folgende Themen behandeln:
- Politische, religiöse, Kultur-, Wirtschafts- oder Sozialgeschichte
- Migrations- und Transformationsgeschichte
- Post-Galicia
- Austausch zwischen Religionen und Konfessionen
- Jüdische Geschichte, Tradition und Literatur
- Geschichtspolitik und politische Identitäten nach 1918 und 1991
- Area- und Mobility-Studies - deutschsprachige (Reise-) Literatur aus und über Galizien
- Galizien und der Erste Weltkrieg in sozial- und/oder kulturgeschichtlicher Perspektive
- Sozialanthropologische Fragestellungen zur Region
Die Zulassung zum DK setzt den Abschluss eines Magisters (Mag./a) oder Masters (M.A.) voraus. Neben Kenntnissen der deutschen und englischen Sprache sind zusätzliche Kenntnisse einer weiteren (historischen) Sprache Galiziens (Polnisch, Ukrainisch, Jiddisch, Hebräisch) erwünscht. Von den KollegiatInnen wird eine dauerhafte Präsenz in Wien und die Bereitschaft, am begleitenden Studienprogramm des DK teilzunehmen, erwartet.
Außerdem schreibt das DK fünf Plätze für externe TeilnehmerInnen aus. Externe Studierende, die an einer einschlägigen Dissertation arbeiten, können kostenlos am Programm des DK teilnehmen und bei ihren Forschungsvorhaben finanziell unterstützt werden. Sie erhalten jedoch keinen Dienstvertrag und damit auch keine regelmäßige Bezahlung.
Bewerbungen mit Lebenslauf, Zeugniskopien, einem 5-seitigen Exposé (ca. 10.000 Zeichen) des Dissertationsprojekts und einem Gutachten eines/r Hochschullehrers/In werden bis zum 31. The Doctoral College (DK) "Austrian Galicia and its Multicultural Heritage" at the University of Vienna is advertising nine funded (contracted) positions for doctoral candidates with a duration of three years (start: 1 March 2016), the positions contingent upon the continued funding of the program.
Supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the Galician Doctoral College is affiliated with the faculties of Historical and Cultural Studies, Philology and Cultural Studies, and Social Sciences of the University of Vienna. Applications can be made in the disciplines of German Studies, History, Judaic Studies, Slavic Studies (Polish and/or Ukrainian Studies), Social Anthropology or Political Science, with particular attention paid to projects that transcend disciplinary and/or cultural borders.
Possible dissertation projects with a clear Galician component might deal with the following topics and subjects:
--political, religious, cultural, economic or social history
--the history of migration and transformation
--post-Galicia
--the interaction between religions and denominations
--the Jewish tradition, history, and literature
--the politics of history and political identities after 1918 and 1991
--area and mobility studies, German (travel) literature from and through Galicia
--Galicia and the First World War in social and/or cultural-historical perspective
--social anthropological questions concerning the region
Admission to the DK presupposes the completion of a Magister (Mag.) or Master's (M.A.) degree. In addition to German and English language capabilities, the additional knowledge of another (historical) language of Galicia (Polish, Ukrainian, Yiddish, Hebrew) is desired. Residence in Vienna and the willingness to take part in the accompanying program of study are expected of the doctoral candidates.
The DK is likewise advertising five openings for external participants. External fellows who are working on related dissertation topics at other universities can take part in the program of the DK without cost and receive financial support for their research projects. They however receive neither a contract nor any regular stipend.
Applications comprised of a curriculum vitae, copies of diplomas, a five-page statement (approximately 10,000 characters) of the dissertation project and a letter of reference form a college or university instructor should be submitted by 31 December 2015 to the Coordinator of the DK, Dr. Olaf Terpitz (olaf.terpitz@univie.ac.at).
