Von
University of Leipzig

Invitation to apply:

The University of Leipzig is seeking outstanding scholars for a tenured professorship in “Sociology, particularly transregional processes”. Through an appointment to two institutions, the post advances the strong academic relationship between the Institute of Sociology, and the Centre for Area Studies, which serves as the hub for transregional studies at the university. The university encompasses a wide range of area studies institutes that focus specifically on the Americas, China, Japan, India, Russia, East-Central Europe, the Near and Middle East, as well as sub-Saharan Africa, with Western Europe being researched upon at the departments for cultural studies, history, and other social sciences.

All of these institutes are represented at the Centre for Area Studies, which has developed a special interest in transregional connections via migration, international organizations, commodity chains, the circulation of ideas and cultural patterns, as well as the establishment and composition of areas by such transregional flows. The application is meant to strengthen the ties between the Institute of Sociology and the Centre in terms of both research and teaching. Successful candidates will furthermore benefit from a well-established cooperation network for undertaking such research and teaching. International applicants are particularly welcome to apply.
