The Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology is looking for a Multimedia editor (f/m/d) with social science background and technical expertise.

Multimedia editor (f/m/d)

Your tasks
The long-term task of the multimedia editor will be to work with the directors, researchers, the IT department, and the public relations office to develop a concept for making the MPI’s research visible and available in multimedia formats. Through the exploration of new forms of anthropological narration, it becomes possible to access and experience research findings in new ways. One task will be the development and maintenance of an online multimedia platform that will make the content accessible to a broader audience beyond academic circles and communicate to the general public about what anthropological research is and what it can teach us. The ambitious project blends creative demands with technical expertise, organizational talent, and communicative skill.

- support researchers to develop innovative ways of multi-media publication (hypertexts with images, texts, films, integrated databases, etc.)
- support the departments to enhance international visibility by developing and maintaining the digitally available series of “Halle lectures” by eminent scholars
- produce visual/audio material for the website about the MPI’s research activities (i.e. podcasts, video clips, storytelling and short recordings from conferences)
- in collaboration with the IT department, determine the technical requirements for the online media platform and develop a plan for implementation
- in collaboration with the public relations office, develop a communication strategy for the online platform
- plan, set up, and provide technical support for the new multimedia events
- professional instruction of student assistants

Your profile
- university degree in a relevant field, e.g. anthropology, journalism, multi-media and authorship, or any other disciplines related to the work at the MPI
- demonstrable ability to direct and produce multimedia productions from start to finish
- experience in communicating complex topics to both academic audiences and the general public
- professional experience in the following areas:
. experience in photo and video technology
. multimedia event technology (video, audio, lighting)
. online content management systems
. social media platforms
. proficiency in relevant software programs (e. g. Premiere, Final Cut, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator)
- willingness to work in teams; because the new event technology and multimedia production are tied to our IT infrastructure, it is essential to work closely with the IT department to integrate these highly technical systems
- excellent interpersonal, problem solving and collaborative skills
- very good English and basic German skills
