Realisation of a study on the history of the Luxembourgish Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (Inspection du Travail et des Mines, ITM) as a postdoctoral researcher. The ITM’s history as a public institution goes back to 1869. Writing its history means dealing with history of trade control, occupational health and safety, working conditions, social relations, investigation of occupational accidents etc., on a national and transnational level.

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.

The Postdoc will be a member of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) at the University of Luxembourg. He/she will work under supervision of Ass-Prof. Dr. Denis Scuto.

Your Role
Realisation of a study on the history of the Luxembourgish Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (Inspection du Travail et des Mines, ITM) as a postdoctoral researcher. The ITM’s history as a public institution goes back to 1869. Writing its history means dealing with history of trade control, occupational health and safety, working conditions, social relations, investigation of occupational accidents etc., on a national and transnational level.

Activities
- Do research and write a publication about the history of the Luxembourgish Inspection du Travail et des Mines (1869-2019)
- Participate in the realisation of an exhibition for the 150th anniversary of ITM
- Collect and review literature and archival sources
- Coordinate and supervise the data retrieval
- Collect data and prepare database on fatal accidents in industry
- Organise lectures and an international conference
- Engage actively in the cooperation between C2DH, ITM and Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy
- Contribute to research in the field of Contemporary History of Luxembourg

Your Profile
- PhD in Contemporary History
- Research profile in the field of Contemporary History with a specialization in social and economic history or related field
- Excellent command of the following languages: German, English, French
- Good digital literacy
