An der Philipps-Universität Marburg ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine im Rahmen des Bund-Länder-Programms zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses (Tenure-Track-Programm) geförderte, zunächst auf sechs Jahre befristete
Qualifikationsprofessur (W1 mit Tenure Track nach W2) für Postcolonial/Colonial Studies Maghreb
zu besetzen.
Die Professur „Postcolonial/Colonial Studies“ soll sich mit der Geschichte sowie den vielfältigen gesellschaftlichen, politischen und ökonomischen Auswirkungen der (De- und Neo-)Kolonialisierung des Maghreb befassen. Die Professur soll sich am Aufbau des Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) beteiligen und ist – je nach Profil der Kandidatin oder des Kandidaten – am Fachbereich Gesellschaftswissenschaften und Philosophie oder Geschichte und Kulturwissenschaften sowie am Centrum für Nah- und Mitteloststudien (CNMS) angesiedelt.
Wir suchen eine Persönlichkeit (m/w/d) mit ersten herausragenden wissenschaftlichen Leistungen und einem innovativen wissenschaftlichen Profil, mit dem das Potenzial für eine weitere erfolgreiche Karriere in der Wissenschaft auf international höchstem Niveau belegt wird. Das Forschungsprofil soll einen Beitrag zur Neubewertung der Kolonialgeschichte und ihres anhaltenden Einflusses auf die gesellschaftlichen Strukturen und Entwicklungen des Maghreb ebenso wie auf die interregionalen Beziehungen im Mittelmeerraum und darüber hinaus leisten. In der Forschung wird eine klare Ausrichtung auf theoretische und methodische sowie geschichtliche Aspekte der Postcolonial Studies erwartet. Ferner werden Kooperationsbezüge und Forschungserfahrungen im Maghreb erwartet.
Vorausgesetzt werden ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium der Geschichts-/Sozialwissenschaft oder verwandter Fächer, eine herausragende Promotion sowie eine besondere pädagogische Eignung. Erfahrungen in der erfolgreichen Einwerbung von Drittmitteln sind erwünscht. Aktive Französischkenntnisse und die Vertrautheit mit den Besonderheiten der Region werden vorausgesetzt, aktive Arabischkenntnisse sind erwünscht.
In der Forschung werden die Mitwirkung am Aufbau und Engagement im MECAM, die Beteiligung an laufenden und geplanten Forschungsverbünden sowie der Auf- und Ausbau internationaler Kooperationen erwartet. Die Mitwirkung an den interdisziplinären Studienangeboten des CNMS sowie an weiteren einschlägigen Studiengängen in Marburg (bspw. Friedens- und Konfliktforschung) und den jeweils disziplinär relevanten Studiengängen des Fachbereichs wird erwartet.
Die Ausschreibung der Qualifikationsprofessur richtet sich ausdrücklich an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler in frühen Karrierephasen. Die Dauer der wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit nach der Promotion soll vier Jahre nicht übersteigen. Ferner soll die Bewerberin oder der Bewerber nicht an der Philipps-Universität promoviert worden oder nach der Promotion mindestens zwei Jahre außerhalb der Philipps-Universität wissenschaftlich tätig gewesen sein (§ 64 Abs. 3 HHG).
Es gelten die Einstellungsvoraussetzungen der §§ 61, 62 und insbesondere 64 HHG. Die Berufung erfolgt bei Vorliegen der beamtenrechtlichen Voraussetzungen in einem Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit für die Dauer von sechs Jahren. Bei positiver Evaluation der fachlichen, pädagogischen und persönlichen Eignung erfolgt die Übernahme in ein Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit, verbunden mit der Übertragung einer W2 -Professur. The Philipps-Universität Marburg invites applications for a
Tenure Track Professorship
in Postcolonial/ Colonial Studies Maghreb
(W1 Tenure Track to W2)
to be filled at the earliest possible date. This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German Federal Government and the Federal States and is initially limited to six years.
The professorship “Postcolonial / Colonial Studies” focuses on the history and the diverse social, political and economic effects of the (de- and neo-) colonization of the Maghreb region. The successful applicant actively participates in the establishment of the Merian Center for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM. Depending on the candidate's profile, the professorship will be located at Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy or History and Cultural Studies, and it is connected to the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS).
We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with initial outstanding scientific achievements and an independent scientific profile in the field of Postcolonial/Colonial Studies that demonstrates the potential for a further successful career in science at the highest international level. The research profile of the successful applicant contributes to the reassessment of the colonial history and its lasting influence on social structures and developments in the Maghreb region, as well as of interregional relations in the Mediterranean region and beyond. In research, a clear focus on theoretical, methodological and historical aspects of postcolonial studies is expected. Furthermore, cooperation networks and research experience in the Maghreb are expected.
Requirements are a completed university degree in history, social sciences or related fields, as well as an outstanding doctorate and a special pedagogical aptitude. Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funds will be considered an asset. Proficiency in French and familiarity with the specifics of the region are required, advanced skills in Arabic are desirable.
In research, participation in the establishment and activities of MECAM, participation in current and planned research alliances as well as the establishment and expansion of international collaborations are expected. The successful applicant is expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programmes offered by the CNMS as well as related study programs (such as in Peace and Conflict Studies) and other programs offered by the faculties.
This call is explicitly aimed at researchers (m/f/d) in the early stages of their scientific careers. The duration of the employment in research and science after obtaining the doctoral degree should not exceed four years. In addition, applicants should not have received their doctorate at the University of Marburg. In case the doctoral degree was obtained at the Philipps-Universität, the applicant should have worked in research and science outside of the Philipps-Universität Marburg
for at least two years thereafter (in accordance with § 64 Abs. 3 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz HHG, the State of Hessen Higher Education Act).
The employment requirements of §§ 61, 62 and especially 64 HHG apply. The Tenure Track pro- fessorship is initially a grade W1 fixed term (6 years) position. If the requirements under general German civil service law are met, the applicant shall be granted a temporary civil service status for a period of six years. In the event of a positive evaluation of the professional, didactic and personal aptitude, the applicant will be granted a civil service status for life, combined with the assignment of a W2 permanent professorship.
