This 15-month post (Available between 1 June 2019 - 31 August 2020), is to contribute to the European Research Council project ‘War and the Supernatural in Early Modern Europe’, under the direction of Dr Ian Campbell as Principal Investigator (PI) at Queen’s University Belfast.

The research project aims to bring an improved understanding of the debates inside the Catholic and Protestant universities on faith and warfare to bear on religious warfare in early modern European culture. More information about our project can be found at http://www.war-and-supernature.com.

The Research Fellow will work with the existing research team at a weekly seminar, completing editions of sixteenth and seventeenth-century Latin scholastic texts. The Research Fellow will also pursue his or her own research agenda, in line with project themes, which will result in the publication of two articles in prestigious venues. The Fellow will be supported in his or her research by a generous travel fund of £2,400 per annum. Other duties are listed in the Job Summary.

Candidates will require a PhD in History or a cognate subject; an excellent command of English and Latin; proficiency in modern languages such as French and German, and an appropriate number of publications. Candidates will be required to submit a writing sample which evidences the use of Latin sources. Further requirements are listed in the

The successful candidate will have:

- Degree or equivalent in History, Classics, or a cognate subject
- A completed Ph.D. in History or a cognate discipline
- Experience of research in early modern European (including British and Irish) history.
- Experience of working with Latin-language primary sources
- Publications or work in press appropriate to stage of career
- Excellent knowledge of English language
- Excellent knowledge of Latin language
- Knowledge of modern languages other than English, such as French and German.
- Clear, effective writing style
- Evidence of time management skills
- Strong critical and analytical skills
- Demonstrable capacity for effective teamwork

Salary: £33,199 per annum
