PhD Studentship (Home/EU) in European Politics

Aston Centre for Europe (ACE) and School of Languages and Social Sciences

Applications are invited for a full-time PhD studentship from October 2009 in the field of European politics. The award consists of a maintenance grant of £12,940 per annum, as well as tuition fees at Home/EU student rates. The award is initially for one year, although it can be extended by up to a further two years subject to the successful applicant’s academic progress.

The studentship will be attached to the newly-established Aston Centre for Europe (ACE), which acts as a hub for the University’s many strengths in contemporary European Studies. ACE is based within the Politics and International Relations (PIR) Academic Subject Group of the School of Languages and Social Sciences and the successful applicant will be supervised by Professor Simon Green, who heads PIR and is a Co-Director of ACE.

Strong applicants in any field of European politics are encouraged to apply, although preference may be given to proposals in immigration and citizenship policy, German politics or European integration. Applicants should have a Masters level degree and a good honours degree (either first class or upper second class) in Politics and International Relations, European Studies or related subjects. The successful applicant will also be expected to provide up to six hours of teaching per week for PIR undergraduate modules.
