Centre for Central European Studies, joint working centre of Masaryk Institute and Archives of Czech Academy of Sciences and CEVRO University Institute organize an international scientific conference:

Agrarism in Central and Eastern Europe in 19th and 20th Centuries

The conference is held on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of birth and the 80th anniversary of death of an important Czech agrarian politician and Czechoslovak Prime Minister Antonín Švehla (1873-1933) and focuses on agrarian movements in various countries and their agrarian representatives. Papers should be devoted to national and regional variations of agrarian movement and to activities of Agrarian International Bureau (“the Green International“). The conference papers can also deal with various aspects of social basis of agrarian movement in Central Europe as well as with agrarian movement’s public representatives, their political strategy, election campaigns, political culture etc. Papers connected with the role of important personalities of the movement, especially those who had serious impact on the development of agrarian parties in Central Europe, and with the attempts to establish cooperation between agrarian parties during and after WW II, are welcomed.

Preferable topics:

Antonín Švehla and other representatives of agrarism

Development and organization of agrarian political parties and movements before and after 1945

Forms of international cooperation between agrarian movements
(the Green International etc.)

Social basis and economical goals of agrarism (programs, institutions, personalities)

Historiography of agrarism

Conference will take place in Prague on 24-25 October 2013. Conference languages are Czech/Slovak, German and English. Presentation of each paper at the conference should not exceed 15 minutes. For the purpose of publication the papers can be presented in extended version up to approximately 20 standard pages. The organizers reserve the right of selection among the papers.

Those who would wish to participate are kindly requested to send an abstract of the proposed paper (maximum 300 words) together with his/her short academic curriculum to the e-mail address pehr@mua.cas.cz. The deadline is 15 February 2013.

The organizers will inform every applicant about inclusion of his/her paper into the conference program till 28 February 2013.
