Comparative research has become one of the main instruments of urban analysis in recent years. This event explores contemporary ways of comparing urban experiences and brings different comparative approaches into conversation. Ola Söderström advances a novel way of thinking about urban transformation by focusing on transnational relations and explores the trajectories of urban development in Hanoi and Ouagadougou. Jennifer Robinson proposes a reconceptualization of comparison as “thinking cities through elsewhere” and indicates a new repertoire of comparative methods with illustrations from Johannesburg and London. Monika Streule and Christian Schmid present a novel methodology to compare current urbanization processes using the examples of 8 large urban areas (Tokyo, Hong Kong/Shenzhen, Kolkata, Istanbul, Lagos, Paris, Mexico City and Los Angeles). The event comprises a panel discussion and a workshop.

In the framework of Future Cities Laboratory 2014 Exhibition and Symposium.
