Applications are invited for the post of Post Doctoral Researcher (Level 1) in Early Modern European History. The successful candidate will join the Irish Research Council Consolidator Laureate project "Malcontents: Order and Disorder in the Early Modern World of Learning," led by Dr Richard Kirwan. The project explores outsider experiences in the early modern world of learning with a focus on the universities of the Holy Roman Empire. It seeks to uncover the processes that led to the identification of social and intellectual deviance and the marginalisation of malcontents in universities. In doing so, the project aims to establish how the treatment of deviance facilitated the substantiation of order in the early modern university.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work with the P.I. to complete Work Package 2 (WP2) of the Malcontents project. WP2 interrogates social marginality in the professoriate from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. This will entail the identification of relevant historical primary sources through archival research; the analysis of this documentary material; and the presentation of findings in project publications.
Contract Type: Specific Purpose (18-month contract).
Salary Scale: PD1 €42,783 - €49,177 p.a. pro rata (maximum starting salary €42,783 p.a. pro rata).
