Learning and Engagement Manager

Full-time, Fixed Term (4 Year) Post based in Central London, WC1
Salary: £28,000 per annum
Responsible to: Director
Responsible for: Community & Outreach Officer and Visitor Services/Library Assistant

The Wiener Library is Britain’s largest archive on the Holocaust and Nazi era. In 2011, the Library is
moving to new premises, and looking to greatly expand and develop its work.

Working closely with the Library’s Director, this newly created post, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, will be responsible for leading the implementation and development of activities relating to the interpretation of our collections. Building and developing the Library’s audiences, the post will work closely with the Library team to deliver programming and exhibitions as well as establishing and maintaining partnerships.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The priority task is to develop, implement and manage a broad range of planned learning and engagement activities at The Wiener Library including:
- Overseeing and contributing to the delivery of a co-ordinated programme of education/lifelong learning activities involving internal and external providers.
- Developing and managing exhibitions – in-house, travelling and digital – to showcase the Library’s collections and remove barriers to access.
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with key bodies, groups and organisations including
academic partners.
- Representing the Library and its work within the education and heritage sector, helping to raise the Library’s profile.
- Monitoring budgets, and working in partnership with the evelopment Director to develop income streams.
- Undertaking evaluation and monitoring of all learning and engagement activities, including the reporting of such information to the Library’s Board and funders.
- Managing and working closely with the Community & Outreach Officer on all engagement and community activities.
- Working closely with the IT & Web Officer to develop, maintain and promote online resources.

Additional Tasks
- Liaising and maintaining good communication with Library and Archive staff to implement a coordinated Learning and Engagement programme.
- Liaising with sponsors, supporters and funders of the Library as appropriate and contributing to fundraising initiatives.
- Participating in The Library’s internal training – sharing skills with colleagues.

You may be asked to carry out other duties as may arise from time to time. You will be required to act in accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to take reasonable care for the health and safety of any person who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.

Some evening and weekend work will be required.
CRB clearance required.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject area.
- Recent or current work within the UK education sector.
- A historical understanding of the Holocaust and Nazi era.

Highly desirable
- Effective management of other staff or volunteers.
- Event management experience.

Skills and Ability
Essential
- German language skills.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Team player as well as self-motivated.
- Ability to work with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Creative and inspiring educator.
- Committed and responsible.

Highly desirable
- Highly organised, focused and result driven.
- First aid training.
- Driving licence.
