The Project Researcher’s position is allocated to the Department of History and Ethnology and its Subject Area of History.
The Project Researcher’s duties focus on cleaning/editing digitised parliamentary data from several European countries for computer-assisted analysis and thus contributing to the construction of an interface that enables the comparative analysis of such data. The work is supervised by a multidisciplinary team of historians, political scientists, language researchers and digital humanities specialists working on the history of political representation at the University of Jyväskylä and the Digital Humanities Lab of Utrecht University. You become part of the international team of scholars contributing to the Academy of Finland Professor Project “Political Representation: Tensions between Parliament and the People from the Age of Revolutions to the 21st Century”.
Qualifications we are looking for
The duties, qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Project Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines.
We expect the applicants to have completed their master’s degree and to have experience in digital humanities, data science or information research.
In evaluating the applicants, advanced IT-skills (XML, Json, NLP, Python) are the first priority. Programming skills are regarded as an asset. Knowledge of the fields of historical, political and/or language research is also welcome. Excellent skills in spoken and written English language are essential. While not mandatory, ability to read one or more of the following languages is appreciated: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Norwegian, Swedish.

The salary of the successful candidate will be based on levels 3-4 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary will be between 2400 - 3200 EUR/month, depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
A trial period of three months applies to this position.
