Masterstudiengang European Studies / Master of Arts in European Studies
Der Masterstudiengang European Studies ist ein zweijähriges, interdisziplinäres und nicht-konsekutives Studienprogramm an der Leibniz Universität Hannover. Er bietet Studierenden eine fundierte, interdisziplinär und praxisnah angelegte Ausbildung, die sie mit neueren sozialwissenschaftlichen Deutungsansätzen über europäische Politik und Gesellschaft sowie die Entscheidungs- und Willensbildungsprozesse in der Europäischen Union vertraut macht und sie zu eigenständiger wissenschaftlicher Forschung qualifiziert.
Im modularisierten Seminarteil sind Lehrveranstaltungen der Bereiche Geschichte, Politik / Sozialwissenschaften, Wirtschaft und Soziales sowie Europäisches Recht / Europäische Rechtspraxis sowie zahlreiche forschungs- und praxisorientierte Lehrveranstaltungen zu absolvieren. Zudem gehören ein Pflichtpraktikum und ein Auslandsaufenthalt zum Programm.
Der Masterstudiengang wurde zum Wintersemester 2000/ 2001 akkreditiert und nimmt seitdem jährlich zum Wintersemester etwa 15 Studierende aus aller Welt auf. Bewerbungsschluss ist jeweils der 15. Juli jeden Jahres.
Der Masterstudiengang wurde im August 2006 von der Zentralen Evaluations- und Akkreditierungsagentur Hannover evaluiert; das Urteil der Expertenkommission fiel „deutlich positiv“ aus. Sie würdigte insbesondere das Engagement der beteiligten Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler sowie „die kleinen Kernkurse, die umfassende Betreuung… und das Bemühen um eine internationale Studierendengruppe“. Der Studiengang wurde für weitere fünf Jahre reakkreditiert und ist somit weiterhin international anerkannt.
Seit dem WS 2005/06 ist der Studiengang gebührenpflichtig; zurzeit werden zuzüglich zum Semester- und Verwaltungskostenbeitrag € 600,00 pro Semester erhoben. Ab dem zweiten Studienjahr können die Studiengebühren im Rahmen eines Stipendienprogrammes ganz oder teilweise erlassen werden.

Masters Program in European Studies / Master of Arts in European Studies

The Masters Program in European Studies is a two-year interdisciplinary post-graduate program offered at the Leibniz University Hannover. Students are provided with a well-founded, interdisciplinary and practice-oriented basis which introduces them to current approaches in European politics and society and decision-making processes within the European Union, ultimately providing them with the necessary skills-set to carry out independent research. The modularised seminar component includes lectures and seminars from the fields of History, Politics and Social Science, Economics and Social Studies and European Law and Legal Practice, together with numerous research and practice-oriented courses. In addition, a mandatory internship and a work or study placement abroad also form part of the program. The Masters Program was accredited in the winter semester of 2000/2001 and annually admits a total of 15 students from Germany and abroad to the program. The deadline for applications is 15 July for admission in the subsequent winter semester.
The Masters Program was evaluated by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (Zentrale Evaluations- und Akkreditierungsagentur) in Hanover in 2006 with “very positive” results returned by the expert commission. In particular, the commitment of the participating researchers and “the limited numbers in the core courses, the comprehensive support…and the aim to attract an international group of students” were highly praised. The program was accredited for a further five years and therefore represents an internationally recognised qualification. Since the academic year 2005/6, the program is subject to tuition fees which currently amount to €600.00 per semester in addition to the university’s enrolment and administration fees. Fees may be fully or partially waived in the framework of a stipend program, available to students from the second year of enrolment in the European Studies program.
