Das VWI ist eine noch zu Lebzeiten von Simon Wiesenthal initiierte und konzipierte, vom österreichischen Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie von der Stadt Wien geförderte wissenschaftliche Einrichtung zur Erforschung und Dokumentation von Antisemitismus, Rassismus und Holocaust. Schwerpunkt der Forschungsarbeit ist der Holocaust in seinem europäischen Zusammenhang, einschließlich seiner Vor- und seiner Nachgeschichte. Mit Herbst 2012 startet das Institut sein Forschungsstipendien-Programm mit Senior, Research und Junior Fellows. Für die wissenschaftliche und inhaltliche Umsetzung dieses Programms sucht das Institut per 1. Oktober eine/n Forschungskoordinator/in auf Teilzeitbasis (20 Wochenstunden). Die Stelle ist vorerst auf drei Monate befristet, mit der Aussicht auf Verlängerung.
Ihre Aufgabengebiete umfassen:
-inhaltliche Koordination der Projekte der Fellows,
-Planung, Organisation und Leitung der internen Forschungsgespräche und -seminare der Fellows,
-Vorbereitung und Abwicklung eines kleinen, zum Teil öffentlichen Veranstaltungsprogramms der Fellows,
-Aufbau einer Infrastruktur für die laufende Betreuung der Senior, Research und Junior Fellows,
-in Absprache mit dem Internationalen Wissenschaftlichen Beirat und der Leitung des VWI Mitgestaltung des Forschungs-, Projekt und Veranstaltungsprogrammes des VWI,
-Mitarbeit an der Organisation von Konferenzen und Ausstellungen.
Erforderliche Qualifikationen und Fähigkeiten:
-Doktorat bevorzugt im geistes- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Bereich,
-publizistisch und forscherisch ausgewiesene Tätigkeit im Bereich der Holocaust-Forschung,
-Erfahrung in der universitären Lehre erwünscht,
-strukturierte und selbständige Arbeitsweise, Organisationsfähigkeit, Umsetzungsstärke, soziale Kompetenz und Teamfähigkeit,
-angesichts der Aufbauphase des Instituts großes Engagement, Belastbarkeit und Improvisationstalent,
-Beherrschung der deutschen und englischen Sprache in Wort und Schrift, weitere Fremdsprachenkenntnisse wünschenswert.
Unser Angebot:
Das VWI bietet Ihnen ein äußerst interessantes Berufsfeld in einem, im Aufbau befindlichen Forschungsinstitut mit allen damit einhergehenden Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten der Gestaltung und Innovation. The Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (Vwi) is searching for a Research Program Director
The VWI is an academic institution dedicated to the study and documentation of antisemitism, racism and the Holocaust. Conceived and established during Simon Wiesenthal’s lifetime, the VWI receives funding from the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research as well as the City of Vienna. Research at the institute focuses on the Holocaust in its European context, including its antecedents and its aftermath. The Institute's research fellowships program for Senior Fellows, Research Fellows and Junior Fellows will start in autumn 2012. The Institute is seeking to fill the position of a research director, who will steward the academic and conceptual implementation of the program. The position is at present part-time (20 hours per week); the incumbent will start work on October 1, 2012. The position is limited to a three-month term, which can be extended.
Tasks will include:
-coordination of fellows' projects;
-planning, organization and direction of internal research discussions and seminars;
-preparation and implementation of a program for presentation of fellows' research, with some public aspects;
-establish an infrastructure for the day-to-day support of Senior Fellows, Research Fellows and Junior Fellows;
-develop a VWI research plan, projects and events program in consultation with the VWI International Academic Board and the VWI management;
-organize conferences and exhibitions.
Required qualifications and abilities:
-Holder of PhD degree, preferably in the humanities, cultural or social studies;
-publications and equivalent professional research activity in the field of Holocaust Studies;
-university teaching experience desirable;
-ability to work independently towards structured goals, organizational skills, ability to manage people productively and to work closely with others;
-the applicant ought to demonstrate a great degree of commitment, resilience and initiative;
-oral and written command of English and German; additional languages desirable.

The VWI offers a professional position in a stimulating field at a newly established research institution in the initial stages of development. The incumbent will have opportunities for creative input and innovation. The incumbent of this part-time position (20 hours per week), will receive a baseline gross monthly salary of EUR 1,800.
