We invite proposals for papers and panels for the German Politics Specialist Group’s contribution to the 2018 PSA Annual International Conference. We suggest three themes for panels, welcome full panel proposals, and also very much welcome papers on any topic pertaining to German politics understood in the broadest sense
We welcome proposals for:
1. Individual papers (max 250 word abstract) on any topic pertaining to German politics understood in the broadest sense.
2. Individual papers (max 250 word abstract) that fit with any of the following proposed thematic panels:
- ‘The Future of Germany’s Militant (wehrhafte) Democracy’
Against the background of challenges to Germany’s post-war democracy, this panel addresses the new political context following the 2017 federal elections which is shaped by the ascent of the AfD and the decline of the Volksparteien.
- ‘Women in German Politics’
In light of the fact that the new Bundestag is more male-dominated than it has been since 1994, this panel invites contributions on gender and politics, including questions of substantive and descriptive representation, and how gender matters in policy-making.
- ‘Germany in a Changing Europe’
This panel focuses on Germany’s role in processes of European integration and disintegration. Papers on Germany as a (reluctant) regional hegemon and economic powerhouse are welcome as well as papers on the challenges facing the incoming government within the EU and the wider Europe.
3. Complete panel proposals. These should include a synopsis (max 500 words) and a panel title as well as the names and email addresses of between 3 and 6 paper givers, a chair and, if preferred, a discussant.
If you would like to submit a paper or a panel for inclusion in the GPSG’s panel submissions, please send all that is necessary to Hartwig Pautz (hartwig.pautz@uws.ac.uk) by the 25th of October.
