Associate-/Assistant Professorship in History

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Associate-/Assistant Professorship in History at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy.

The overall aim of the department is to undertake critical investigations of topics relevant to an understanding of business in society. The successful applicant will be positioned in the Business History group (for presentation of the departmental groups of MPP see below). The Business History group currently consists of two full professors, six associate professors and four PhD students. A focus area in the forthcoming years will be entrepreneurship. It is the ambition of the group to enhance its position as an international oriented experimenting and creative research environment that integrates new fields, approaches and methods in research and teaching, in the field of Business History. We therefore welcome applicants with background in history, economic history, history of technology, historical and economic sociology ethnographical history, cultural history, and other related fields.

The search is open with regard to methodological approach and focus area.

Examples of research areas that the associate- /assistant professor might cover could be history of capitalism, entrepreneurship in historical perspective, innovation , business in developing economies, enterprise in society, and management styles, but we also invite applications from scholars with different focus.

Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP)

Core research areas of MPP are public and political management, management philosophy, business history, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It is the ambition of MPP to strengthen and develop cross disciplinary research and teaching in the intersection between, on the one hand, business and economics and, on the other hand, social science and the humanities. Research and teaching at MPP is committed to continuous challenge of existing disciplinary boundaries, while at the same time providing new knowledge with relevance to CBS stakeholders in particular and society in general.

MPP is divided into four research groups, complemented by an administrative unit that provides professional support within research and education. MPP seeks to ensure an ongoing improvement within the areas of administration and appreciates staff members who take an active part in this development.

Teaching responsibilities of the MPP comprise BA and MA in Business Administration and Philosophy, BSc in International Business, BSc in Business Administration and Sociology, MA in Political Communication and Management, MA in International Marketing and Management, MA in Political Communication & Management, MA in Organizational Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Master of Public Administration.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

The assistant professorship is a non-tenured position of 3-5 years.

The associate professorship is a tenured position. Both positions are with research and teaching obligations.

The position can be filled at either assistant- or associate professor level depending on the qualifications of the applicants. Applicants are requested to specify whether they want to be evaluated at the assistant- or associate professor level.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department. The successful assistant professor applicant is furthermore obliged to participate in the assistant professor program at CBS on teaching principles and methods in order to fulfill the pedagogical requirements made at the end of the term of employment as assistant professor.

Associate professor level:
Responsibilities
- Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs
- Individual and group based research meeting high international standards
- Promoting CBS’s academic reputation
- Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects
- Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School within the core area of Business Economics and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
- Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department at to CBS-wide tasks
- Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate.
- Research, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
- Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
- Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.

The associate professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position.
Qualifications

- Advanced degree in an appropriate field
- Documented pedagogical qualifications or other material for the evaluation of his/her pedagogical level
- Documented research production at an international level, including publications in the field’s internationally recognized journals

Applicants without appropriate teaching experience will be appointed on a probationary period of up to 1½ years.

Assistant professor level:

Responsibilities

Qualifications

The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production.
