Das Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam (ZZF) sucht zum 1. April 2019 für seine Abteilung I (Kommunismus und Gesellschaft) im internationalen Forschungsnetzwerk „Legacies of Communism? Post‐Communist Europe from Stagnation to Reform, between Autocracy and Revolution“
einen wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter (m/w/d).
Die Stelle ist in Vollzeit und aufgrund der Projektlaufzeit befristet für 3 Jahre zu besetzen. Die Vergütung erfolgt in der Entgeltgruppe TV-L 13. Der Dienstort ist Potsdam.
Das interdisziplinäre Forschungsnetzwerk „Legacies of Communism“ mit Partnern in sechs Staaten wird sich in den kommenden drei Jahren unter Federführung des ZZF mit der Entwicklung osteuropäischer und post-sowjetischer Gesellschaften vom Spätsozialismus bis zur Gegenwart beschäftigen. Das Projekt leiten Dr. Jan Claas Behrends und Dr. Juliane Fürst. Im Zentrum des Interesses steht Kontinuität und Wandel gesellschaftlicher Eliten über den Bruch von 1989/1991 hinaus. Das Projekt möchte ferner dazu beitragen, die Genese und den Erfolg neo-autoritärer Herrschaft in post-kommunistischen Gesellschaften historisch zu erklären. Das Netzwerk wird aus SAW-Mitteln der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft gefördert.
Ihre Aufgaben:
- Entwicklung und Durchführung eines eigenen Forschungsprojekts im Rahmen des internationalen Netzwerks „Legacies of Communism“. Es wird erwartet, dass Sie sich mit Ihrer eigenen Projektidee (Exposé mit max. 3.000 Wörtern) beim ZZF bewerben. Ihr Projekt kann sich mit Osteuropa (ohne die DDR) oder auch mit Staaten der früheren Sowjetunion beschäftigen. Bitte fordern Sie bei Interesse an dieser Post-Dok-Stelle unter legacies@zzf-potsdam.de ein Projektpapier zu Ihrer Orientierung an und verfassen Sie anschließend ein Exposé mit ihrer Projektidee.
- Aktive Mitarbeit bei der Organisation des Netzwerkes, Teilnahme an seinen Veranstaltungen und Publikationen
- Mitarbeit in der Abteilung I und im ZZF
Ihr Profil:
- Abgeschlossene, überdurchschnittliche Dissertation in osteuropäischer Geschichte, Zeitgeschichte oder einer angrenzenden Disziplin (Soziologie, Anthropologie, Politikwissenschaft)
- Gute Kenntnis des Englischen (Projektsprache) sowie wenigstens einer osteuropäischen Sprache
- Fundierte Kenntnisse der osteuropäischen Geschichte und Kultur
- Interesse an der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Erbe von Diktatur und autoritärer Herrschaft
- Motivation zu universitärer Lehre in Berlin und/oder Potsdam
- Gute Teamkompetenz und Interesse an internationaler Vernetzung
- Eigeninitiative und Zielstrebigkeit

The Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF) Potsdam, Department I (Communism and Society), seeks to fill
one post-doc position
starting on 1 April 2019 within the international research project “Legacies of Communism? Post‐Communist Europe from Stagnation to Reform, between Autocracy and Revolution”.
The position is full-time and limited to three years due to the project duration. The salary is paid according to the collective bargaining agreement for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13). Place of employment is Potsdam.
During the coming three years the interdisciplinary research network „Legacies of Communism“ with partners in six countries will be hosted by the ZZF in Potsdam. It will focus on historical research of the political and social development of Eastern Europe and the former USSR from late socialism to post-communism. The project will explore changes and continuities of political and social elites in post-communist countries across the 1989/1991 divide. It aims to better understand and interpret the rise of authoritarian rule in post-communist societies. The network will be coordinated by Jan Claas Behrends and Juliane Fürst. The project is funded by a SAW-grant of the Leibniz Association.
Your tasks:
- Development of your own research project within the framework of the international network „Legacies of Communism“. Your research may be on any country within Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet realm (excluding the former GDR). You are required to present your own project proposal of max. 3,000 words. - Participation and organization of activities of the project (workshops, conferences, presentations, publications)
- Participation in the work of the department and the institute
Your profile:
- PhD in East European History, Modern History or a related discipline (Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science)
- Advanced knowledge of English and at least one Eastern European language
- Advanced knowledge of the region’s culture and history
- Interest in the legacies of dictatorship and the origins of authoritarian rule
- Motivation to teach at universities in Berlin and/or Potsdam
- Team player with interest in international exchange and collaboration
- Determination to academic excellence
