RE: PAID RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY AND RESEARCH TRAVEL

Role description: We are looking for two research assistants interested in nineteenth-century diplomatic and economic history to complete a mini research project using archival resources in French and German.

Pay: The assistants will be paid EUR16.00/hour for about of 10 hours/week over the next few months, but we are happy to extend the working hours depending on the willingness and existing workload of the researchers.

Should a single German and French-speaking researcher be interested, we will negotiate a higher rate of remuneration accordingly.

Assistants will also be given the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in the Viennese archives with all expenses paid. They are encouraged to pursue their own research interests while there, to the extent possible. Again, we are fully flexible and will consider sponsoring flights, meals, incidentals, local travel and accommodation for 3 weeks as part of a longer field-trip.

Project leader: Jonathon Bond, Skagen & Jupiter Capital
Project coordinator and lead researcher: George K. Regkoukos, Dept. of History, King's College London

The Project: Jonathon Bond, a capital investments executive, is seeking to employ young historians/ECRs for an overarching project covering European diplomacy during the period 1800-1850. The research assistant(s) engaged on the Viennese part of the project will conduct research related to the Metternich Papers, specifically his official correspondence (mostly in French) and memoirs (in German). They are also expected to conduct research relating to other personalities involved international settlements during the first half of the nineteenth century in Europe (e.g. Lebzeltern).

Currently, the project revolves around two publications (expected in 2021-2022) already approved by Haus. Additionally, two international conferences (one in London scheduled for early summer and one in Athens for early autumn) have already been organised. Researchers involved in the project will be given the choice to present findings. Again, attendance expenses will be covered by the project managers. Consequently, in addition to financial gain, the project represents an excellent opportunity for young researchers to network.

Application process: If you are interested send a one-page CV and a statement of research interests not exceeding 500 words to georgios.h.regkoukos@kcl.ac.uk.

Applications will be considered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applicants whose CV and interests are found to be compatible with the project will be asked to arrange a 20' call or Skype with the Project Leader and the Project Coordinator. It is very important to us that our researchers' own work is helped and not hindered by occupation with the project. Please take that into consideration before applying. This is a rolling applications process starting on January 24th and continuing until the positions are filled.
