Jacobs University Bremen in the focus area Diversity invites applications for a qualified PhD Student (f/m) (part-time and limited) for a research project on

“The Green Revolution and multinational companies, 1960s and 1970s”.

The research project is embedded in a larger research project on The International History of Rural Development since 1950 funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and coordinated by Marc Frey (Professor of Contemporary History/History of International Relations, Bundeswehr University Munich) and Corinna R. Unger (Professor of Modern European History, Jacobs University Bremen).

We offer a position as research associate (German payscale equivalent TVÖD E 13, 50 %) for 36 months, beginning on April 1, 2015 and ending on March 31, 2018. Additional funding for research trips to archives in Europe and North America is available. Project work will be conducted at Jacobs University Bremen and in archives in Europe and the United States.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Historical research on the role of multinational companies in the Green Revolution within the wider framework of the research project on the International History of Rural Development.
- Composition of a PhD dissertation on the topic, to be submitted to Jacobs University Bremen under the supervision of Prof. Frey, Prof. Unger, and an external supervisor.
- The thesis will be written in English.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent M.A. in modern/contemporary history or a field closely related to the research project on the Green Revolution and/or the overall research project on the International History of Rural Development since 1950.
- Fluency in English and German (written and oral).
- Dedication to team work and independent research.
- Experience with archival work (companies, international organizations), especially in Germany, is a definite plus.
