The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) is an interdisciplinary area studies research institute in Regensburg. IOS explores the historical, economic, and political developments of eastern and south-eastern Europe in a transnational and comparative perspective. It pursues research in four main fields: governance, exchange (migration and trade), labour, and conflicts.
In 2017, IOS joined the Leibniz Association, one of the leading associations of research insti-tutions in Germany. IOS closely cooperates with the University of Regensburg. For more in-formation on IOS go to http://www.leibniz-ios.de

To strengthen our research team, we invite applications for a
half-time postdoc position (TVL-E 13) in the DFG-funded research project “Transformations from Below. Shipyards and Labor Relations in the Uljanik (Croatia) and Gdynia (Poland) Shipyards since the 1980s”
starting as soon as possible, for a duration of 19 months.

“Transformation from Below” is a cooperative project of IOS and University of Vienna, funded by German DFG and Austrian FWF. It started in April 2016 and aims at a comprehensive exploration of changes in labour relations and social milieux during the transformation from state-socialism on the case of two shipyards in Poland and Croatia. More information on the project at: http://www.transformations-from-below.eu/
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute mainly with ethnographic and oral history research, especially on the Croatian case study, and will publish the results of her/his research.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in ethnology, history or a cognate field. Candidates with nearly completed PhDs might be considered as well. Research experience in oral history and the study of labour is highly desirable. Successful candidates have excellent knowledge of English and Croatian, knowledge of German is an asset.

Remuneration is based on the German TV-L public pay scale, salary group E13, on a part-time (50%) basis. The appointment is for 19 months, until the completion of the project.

IOS, together with the University of Regensburg, provides an attractive academic environment. The city of Regensburg is a charming location in southern Germany (Bavaria), registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Please submit your application, including letter of motivation, CV, transcripts, abstract of your dissertation, and list of publications and conference presentations via the IOS online application portal at https://www.ios-regensburg.de/en/vacancies.html.
