gta Verlag, the publishing house of the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich, is launching an international call for manuscripts for gta edition, a new hybrid (print + open-access) publication series. The manuscript selected will be published, fully financed, as volume 3 of the series in 2023.

Call for Manuscripts - gta edition

gta edition is a peer-reviewed series of short monographs that take a fresh and provocative look at seemingly well-known aspects of architectural theory, thus engaging in contemporary historiography and the production of theory in architecture. The volumes of the series are published as paperbacks, as PDFs, and in HTML. A generative layout process ensures low-cost yet high-quality publications that prioritize text but also offer space for images, maps, and other appendices.

The first volume in the series, "Vitruvius Without Text: The Biography of a Book" by André Tavares, published in spring 2022, will be followed by "The Autonomy of Theory: The Reception of Ticinese Architecture" (working title) by Irina Davidovici.

Manuscripts should be unpublished, be written in English or German, and have a maximum of 30,000 words and 30 figures. Submissions should be received by 15 April and should include a synopsis (maximum 1 page), a provisional table of contents, and a text sample. Authors should only submit proposals for manuscripts that can be completed within half a year. The submissions will be reviewed by a board consisting of the authors of the first two volumes of the series and gta Verlag director Moritz Gleich. The successful manuscript will undergo peer review and professional copy editing.

We look forward to receiving your submission.
