Women's and Gender Rights are currently being increasingly questioned and at-tacked in many places worldwide. The Research Group Global Contestations of Women's and Gender Rights aims to bring into dialogue different perspectives on this phenomenon in order to discuss common logics, patterns and strategies in their relation to and entanglement with larger power structures and hierarchies (such as economic structures, struggles over hegemony, persistent colonial logics, or religious discourses). One of the aims is to promote building feminist solidarities and discuss possible future strategies of collaboration and solidarity across differences and beyond national, cultural, religious, racialized, classed, and other boundaries.
The online roundtable features the observations and experiences of the Research Group's Fellows Andrea Pető (Hungary), Brenda Kombo (Cameroon/Mali/Kenya), Birgit Sauer (Austria), Shirin Zubair (Pakistan) and Livia de Souza Lima (Brazil) from their respective locations. The panellists share the specific relevant arenas, actors and the language used in their contexts to carve out the diversity of patterns and logics as well as similar structures and strategies of attacking 'gender'. The ultimate aim is to think about possible common framings for analysing and critiquing attacks on 'gender' from a global perspective and develop alliances and tools to overcome them.
The event will be held as a video conference. For registration, please contact: karin.matzke@uni-bielefeld.de
