Lecturer for Tibetan language (classical and modern) (TVL-13)

The position should be filled by 1 October 2010 latest. It will initially be filled until 31 October 2012, with optional extension. The position is part of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Asymmetries of Cultural Flows,” funded by the German Federal Excellence Initiative. The salary corresponds to level TVL-13 of the German public service salary scale.

The lecturer is expected to teach language courses in classical and modern Tibetan (Lhasa dialect) on all levels, together with instructions in elementary knowledge of the history of Tibetan language and literature. The lecturer is further expected to support Tibet-related activities in research and teaching of other members of the university, and to occasionally assist the library in the acquisition and cataloguing of Tibetan materials.

The successful candidate has a university degree in Tibetan Studies, is capable to work in a team, has didactic qualifications in language teaching and is willing to engage with a transcultural research approach. Knowledge of German is desired.
