Applications are invited for a permanent lectureship in Global Economic History, tenable from January 2019, with a strong preference for a historian with particular expertise in regions outside of Europe (especially Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America). The subject expertise can relate to any period in global economic history. Candidates should have a firm grounding both in quantitative and qualitative research methods, and in-depth knowledge of recent debates in the field of global and transnational history.

Applications from historians with an interdisciplinary profile are particularly welcomed. The School of History has recently joined the ESRC-funded Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) as part of the Economic and Social History pathway, and candidates are expected to make a vital contribution to both the training provision and studentship competition of the SGSSS, as well as the teaching of a new Master’s programme in Social and Economic History (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/subjects/history/economic-social-history-msc/).

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject, show evidence of substantial research potential, and have experience of teaching at university level, combined with an ability to bring imagination to tutorials, seminars and lectures. The successful candidate will join a distinguished cluster of scholars working in the fields of social, economic and transnational history both within and beyond the School of History, and will be expected to undertake a range of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
